One of two circuits in Tasmania, Symmons Plains has the greatest claim to fame, having been a fixture of the Australian touring car scene over the decades.

The circuit opened in 1960 and by the end of the decade was regularly hosting top Australian touring car races, first hosting a race in 1969.

A relatively short lap, at just 2.4 km, the circuit features a notably tight hairpin at the end of one of two long straights.

The basic layout of the track is effectively unchanged since it opened, although the pitlane was moved from inside the circuit to the outside in 1994.
